I don't think you can - every single girl on the show spoke of a brother (an 'anna' or a 'thambi'). So find me one girl on the show that did not have a brother. The parents want to ensure someone supports them in old age. The girl wants to secure her future financially.

I believe that the reasons are related to something that I have already blogged about - this assumption that everyone 'must' have a male child and the overwhelming patriarchy of Indian society and that people are always motivated for selfish reasons. Let's assume for the sake of this post that the girls were speaking from their hearts and that not many changes were made to sensationalize things for the sake of increasing TRP. It made me automatically think about who could be the reason the girls spoke this way. Comments ran from, 'Did you see those horrendously greedy girls on the show?', 'Who's going to marry them now!! That will show them!' memes with a 'girl' showing up as an old lady (still unmarried and waiting for her groom to land in a helicopter) etc. This is not the first time the show has outraged me - it is so regressive most days that I have learnt to stay away from the television when it is on so as to prevent myself from bursting into flames! This particular episode had so many other people protesting and cursing the girls. I'm quite sure that the show is doctored to show the worst in people. If you are Tamil, then you know where I'm coming from! Yes, I'm speaking of the now infamous 'girls' from the 'Neeya Naana' show on Star Vijay!!
